Our History

The Artist Sanctuary was founded in 2018 by Heidi Bacon, a local Red Wing artist. Though the city has a rich and vibrant artistic community, she saw a need for an arts organization specifically focused on artists just starting to develop their careers.

Inspired by Heidi's vision, the Church of Christ gifted her the building on West Avenue. (Officially purchased for $1) It has become our home and very own sanctuary.

Gail is a glassblower with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.

Susan Forsythe

Susan Forsythe is a violinist following the tradition of early 20th century artists like Heifetz, Elman and Milstein and the late 20th century artists like Perlman, Zukerman and Steiner with whom she studied.
